Crimson Vol 1 eBook Brian Augustyn Humberto Ramos

I missed out on getting into this comic book series when it was coming out so when this collection was released by Boom I had to pick it up. But the collections department over at Boom dropped the ball. The original series covers were omitted from the collection, not in front of each issue, or available in the back as bonus material. Also part of the way through issue 4 the reproduction goes from looking crisp as if from the original negatives/art proofs to being some sort of scan from a copy of the comic. The colors are splotchy, and have that scanned look about them, and is something that stays pretty prevalent up to issue 10. Now since I didn't read the original run perhaps the individual issues had these issues too, maybe there was a mix up at the printers or digital colors, or whatever, but no matter it still hurts the look of the book.

While I like the creative team, the book's story isn't for me. Felt too dense, trying to do too much from the start, and lost me. Perhaps I wasn't in the mood to read it at the time when I first got it. Perhaps I give it a year and may fall right into it. That happens. But if you like cartoony tales of vampires with some seriously tongue in cheek humor, this comic's for you.

Crimson Vol 1 eBook Brian Augustyn Humberto Ramos Reviews

I absolutely loved this book when it was released. After paying a premium for the hardcover, I quickly realized that the print quality varies greatly from page to page. Some of the look downright awful.
Love this book
Excelent
good book
Cliffhanger comics was formed in the '90s by three of the top comic creators of the time Joe Madureira (Battlechasers), J. Scott Campbell (Danger Girl), and Humberto Ramos (Crimson). All three books were awesome and the comic line could have had a bright future if the artists could have met their deadlines. Joe and Scott's comics were months late and Ramos was the only one remotely close to putting out a regular book. Due to the constant delays, the company quickly folded. Joe Mad has always been my favorite comic artist, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of Ramos' book as well. The story and art are great! The downside with this collection is that it's so bare bones. There is nothing in this book besides the reprinted comics. No cover collection, no commentary from the artist (or anyone else for that matter), no pencil art, NOTHING!!! If you already have the comics, don't waste your money hoping to find something new here. I had a few missing issues that I needed to fill in, so I guess it was worth the nostalgia trip for me, but otherwise don't bother.
Many of the issues in fluctuating page scan quality have not been resolved in this digital copy but I don't find the issues distracting enough to not enjoy reading the book. It's as enjoyable and beautiful as the day I first picked it up all those years ago.
Great story and art, BAD printing!! Some of the chapters look like they are scans from old comics. Blured, distorted, with a pattern.

I'm thinking of getting the digital copies instead, but I'm concerned they will be poorly represented as well...
